"When people reference lines and bits… some of them don't really ring a bell at all."
If you're reading this you probably agree: The Office is one of the greatest shows to grace TV. It will always lift your mood. It will always make you laugh (especially seasons two to four). And, best of all, after you rewatch the series for the millionth time, there is an endless trove of ways to continue engaging with it online.
But if you've rewatched the show again and again, or just recently during quarantine, you might know it better than the show's star Steve Carrell.
The man behind Michael Scott says he doesn't know the show as well as its superfans.
The actor recently reunited with his costar Rainn Wilson and, naturally, the two chatted about The Office and its enduring appeal.
"How has that been for you, this kind of strange Office obsession renaissance going on?," Rainn asked Steve.
That's when Steve shared, "I don't know if you feel the same thing, but the people who watch the show definitely know the show better than we do."
"Maybe we watched it once when we'd all get together and watch episodes. That was most of my watching of the show," he continued.
He then revealed, "I don't know all the details, and when people reference lines and bits… some of them don't really ring a bell at all."
Steve is able to nail why so many people love the show, though.
"One thing that's been really gratifying for me is like during this really dark time I've heard from so many people that they've really appreciated having The Office there — that it has a warmth and humanity to it, kind of a family feel that makes it a special thing," he said. "And that's helped them during this time, and even helped their mental health."
