Excuse me while I cry about the timelessness of true love forever.
The show, which is a follow up to The Haunting of Hill House, follows a storyteller at a wedding as she weaves the tale of an au pair looking after two ~perfectly splendid~ children in England.
As the show goes on, the story starts to focus on the relationship between the au pair, Dani, and the gardener, Jamie. We watch as they fall in love despite Dani being bound to spend eternity as the Lady in the Lake at Bly Manor.
The couple lived a beautiful life until Dani returned to the manor to fulfill her tragic fate, leaving Jamie alone to keep her memory alive by telling and retelling her story — including at a wedding!!
That's right! Our mysterious narrator turns out to be an older Jamie, as she attends the wedding of a grown-up Flora while also reuniting with Henry, Miles, and Owen. Though the children no longer remember the horrific events at the manor, Jamie's retelling was a way to reconnect their found family with Dani's memory.
The last moments of the series shows Jamie desperately looking at her reflection, and keeping all the doors open in the hopes Dani will return in spirit. As she cracks open her hotel room door and sits in a chair in front of it, she slowly falls asleep only for us to see...
...Dani's hand on her shoulder!!!
After years of waiting for her lover's return, the ending leaves us with the knowledge that Dani is still around, watching over Jamie, even if she doesn't know it.
Both Victoria Pedretti and Amelia Eve see the ending as hopeful, and honestly I'm crying even harder right now.
Obviously this revelation was the cherry on the sundae that was this season's emotional roller coaster and I was not the only person who couldn't handle this expression of undying true love.
It's the way that the haunting of bly manor started with dani avoiding reflections and ended with jamie searching for something on them for me04:24 PM - 14 Oct 2020
thinking about bly manor’s exploration of love vs possession and how they paralleled peter selfishly taking rebecca with him cause he didn’t want to be alone vs dani sacrificing herself and letting go of jamie cause she refused to hurt her, even if jamie wanted to come with her12:46 PM - 16 Oct 2020
JAMIE REALLY TOLD DANI ABOUT HOW SHE LOST EVERYONE SHE LOVED AND HOW DEATH IS NATURAL AND EXPLAINED THE BEAUTY OF THE MOON FLOWER AND SHE DECIDED DANI WAS WORTH THE EFFORT ONLY TO THEN LOSE DANI AND HAVE TO SPEND THE REST OF HER LIFE KNOWING DANI WAS HER ONE MOON FLOWER10:51 AM - 14 Oct 2020
the ending of the haunting of bly manor is gonna live rent free in my mind forever and im gonna cry over dani and jamie for the rest of my life arent i03:59 AM - 13 Oct 2020
the way dani's ghost manifested with the same sweater because that was the last time her body was truly and fully hers, no lady in the lake. and that's why even though the lady in the lake is now both viola and dani, when dani visits jamie, it's just fully her... in that sweater.03:18 PM - 19 Oct 2020
just remembered jamie has been opening her door a lil bit just so dani could come back to her when dani has been by her side this whole time08:48 AM - 19 Oct 2020
DANI CHOSE TO LEAVE AND NEVER SAY GOODBYE BECAUSE SHE KNEW JAMIE WOULD BEG HER TO STAY AND SHE’D NEVER BE ABLE TO WALK AWAY IF SHE DID! SHE HURT JAMIE BUT SHE HURT HERSELF JUST THE SAME BY WALKING AWAY KNOWING SHE MIGHT ONE DAY BE FORGOTTEN BY THE ONE PERSON SHE LOVED THE MOST03:35 AM - 14 Oct 2020
friendly reminder that dani and jamie clayton spent almost 13 years together which is 4745 days05:20 AM - 14 Oct 2020
